About Me

My photo
I decided to put together a fitness challenge here at work in order to raise morale and have people, myself included get in shape. I was expecting a low to moderate turnout, but to my surprise the turnout was phenomenal. There were 100 people that signed up for the challenge. We had a local gym come in and do bodyfat tests on all participants. I'm excited, as I'm sure are the rest of the people that signed up. I wish all of you the best of luck and "HAPPY TREADMILLING"

Week 4 is almost done!

Hi everybody. I apologize that I have not posted anything on my blog for a few days, but it has been a little hectic at work. My progress thus far has been OK. I have lost 10 lbs. and 2.5 % body fat. If I'm doing the math correctly that puts me on pace for 30 lbs and 7.5 % body fat loss by the end of the fitness challenge. Not great, but not too shabby. I want to thank those that have joined my blog and want to encourage all of you that have not to do so. I look forward to seeing your progress.

End of Week 3

Hello everybody. Well, we are at the end of week 3 and some of you have told me about your progress thus far. I really have my work cut out for me if I want to beat some of you. You guys are kicking butt and taking names. So far I have lost 8 pounds and 2 % body fat (1.9 % to be exact) but from what you guys are telling me I'm still lagging behind some of you. Don't let up because I assure you I'm right behind you. Well I'm going to bed everybody. Keep up the good work.

Good morning everyone. Well weeks 1 and 2 of the challenge have come and gone and I'm curious to see how everyone out there is doing. I've lost 6 pounds, which is not mesmerizing but OK none the less. An important thing to consider throughout this challenge is consistency. You have to stick to it and not dwell too much if you happen to fall off the wagon. Get right back on and go at it that much stronger. I will get my body fat done hopefully at tonight's gym visit and see how I'm doing in regards to bodyfat as opposed to weight. Anyhow, I encourage you to join my blog and post your progress. Have a great week.

Lost 4 lbs. (11 weeks to go)

Good morning guys. I weighed myself yesterday night and I lost 4 lbs. That's not bad considering I've slipped a few times. My goal was 25 lbs. and 7 % of body fat so I'm on my way. Don't get discouraged if you don't see the lbs. coming off. Go off of how your clothes feel. Do they fit a little less snug in certain areas? I'm interested in seeing how all of you are doing through the 1st week. If you get a chance go to www.youtube.com and type in Abb Ansley body for life. Check out his video. It's amazing and quite inspiring. Abb is one of the first winners back in 1998 for the Body For Life contest and his transformation is phenomenal.

Debunking the muscle weighs more than fat myth.

Hi guys and gals. Well, week 1 of the challenge is almost over and so far so good. I've had a few set backs. I drank 2 cokes thus far and don't plan on drinking one tomorrow, so that makes it 2 cokes for the whole 1st week. I plan on having a great 2nd week and making some real progress. I will weigh myself and see where I'm at. Muscle does not weigh more than fat. Fat is bulky and lumpy so if you carry an extra five pounds of fat, you'll be lumpier than with five pounds more muscle. A five pound pile of fat will take up more space (volume) than a five pound pile of muscle; but five pounds is still five pounds, you cannot say one thing weighing a certain weight weighs more than another thing at that same weight. The correct way to state the muscle weighs more than fat scenario is, "Muscle is heavier by volume than fat." A woman weighing 150 pounds with 19% fat will look much smaller (and be much healthier) than a woman at 150 pounds with 35% fat. They weigh the same, yet the composition is different. Because muscle is more dense than fat the person with less fat and more muscle will look smaller. Don't be so obsessed with body weight and start paying attention to body composition. How much body fat do you have compared to muscle? Simply seeing how much you weigh isn't very helpful.

Screwed up on my diet today so I need to have a great workout.

Hi guys, it's almost the end of day 4 and it's about 8:00 PM. I'm heading for the gym in a little while and need to have an awesome workout. I screwed up a little on my diet today. We all went to Luby's and I had chicken fried steak, rice, a roll, and worst of all "a coke". That was my first coke in 4 days, and that is the one item that has been the hardest to drop cold turkey. I hope all of you are keeping up with your workouts and feel free to post your progress on my blog. Again, good luck to all of you.

Day 3 of the challenge

Well, I am on day 3 of the "fitness challenge" and so far so good. I've lost 4 pounds, but it most likely is excess water weight. I have been a little sick these past few days, but still got in two good workout. Monday I worked out with my cousin and he is an absolute beast. He is an INS inspector and his nickname at the bridge is "monster". (he definately does justice to his nickname)We did triceps that day and I can still feel them. Yesterday, I did biceps and got a pretty good pump. I did cardio both days. (30 minutes on the elliptical machine) I have watched what I ate and have drank a lot of water. My brother lent me a small refrigerator for my office and I stockpiled it with healthy snacks. This way when I get a little craving, I pull out a healthy treat. Well enough for now guys and gals. Remember to put your heart and soul into this challenge. Don't think of it as a 12 week challenge, but as a "today" challenge. By that, I mean you work out hard today, eat healthy today, drink lots of water today, and get plenty of rest today. You take this day by day. Well folks, I wish you the very best with this endeavor, but I will do my very best to beat all of you. On a last note, I just want to tell of you that took the challenge how proud I am of you. It's not easy. If it was everybody would be doing it. Don't let up and go for the gold.

Happy Treadmilling!!!
